On September 12th 2008, the pupils of the Primary School "Ivan Goran Kovacic", Slavonski Brod, Croatia, celebrated the Croatian Olympic Board Day.
Together with their teachers, classes from 2 – 8, more than 400 kids, walked to the recreational center Poloj situated by the Sava River, about 4 km from the school. That was a very good opportunity to see how children behave while walking in a large group through the town and through the countryside.
of all ages have been educated about road safety in their regular classes,
especially Technical Culture classes. At the beginning of each school
year, traffic police officers visit our school and inform 1st graders
about road safety, traffic signs and safety rules. They help them to
understand the risks, particularly on the journey to and from school.
Children as pedestrians are often involved in traffic accidents with tragic consequences.
In the year 2007, 1797 school children were seriously injured or killed in many car crashes in Croatia. We want to explore the reasons and prevent future tragedies as much as possible.
The project "Road Safety" will help
us to meet our curriculum targets this school year.
