Rosh Hashanah

The Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah is pretty much our New Year. The Jewish people think about all there behaviors good and bad to find out what they need to improve on. On new years we make resolutions to improve our behaviors. We both think of it as the birthday of the year or the head of the year. To welcome the New Year we all celebrate and most of us stay up late. The people can not clean all day long but the house should be clean because they clean for 30 days before this particular holiday. This is a holiday where there are special features. One thing they do is most stores and synagogue for get-togethers. At these get-togethers they sit and talk about the past and what might be in the future to come. They also eat one large meal consisting of sweet foods that symbolize hope for a good year to come. Some of the common foods are challah which is a rich bread baked in a circle and dipped in honey. They also eat apples dipped in honey.

Rabbi Jacob Halevi started this tradition on the first and second of Tishrei in Israel. There it is know as the head of the year and is celebrated to welcome a great new to come in and let bad memories go.

Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Jewish year. It was started by Rabbi,Jacob Halevi. The reason it was started because you need to start a new year.

During Rosh Hashanah which is two days long you don`t do any work and prey every day. Two also eat and drink many special foods.

Rosh Hashanah is like the Christian New Year`s. Some things that are alike are it`s the beginning of a New Year, celebration, and pray on that day. Some things are different though because they are on different dates.

A man named Rosh Hashanah thought of the holiday Rosh Hashanah. It started in Israel. It very first started in the times of the bible days. Rosh Hashanah is a tine to look back to all your mistakes and plan to change them.

One tradition the Jews have on Rosh Hashanah is to walk to flowing water and empty your pockets into the river. This represents that you're throwing your sins into the river or throwing them away. A food they eat is apples dipped in honey. When they do this the apple represents all year around and toe honey represents sweetness. So if you put it together it means to "have a sweet year." They also use bread and honey, but it means the same thing.

Rosh Hashanah is like Now Years in America. Here are some ways Rosh Hashanah and New Years are alike. First, they both last two days. Ours is celebrated on New Years Eve and New Years Day. Second, it is a time of a new year. Third, they both are important holidays.

Rosh Hashanah, which means "head of the new year," is one of the most important Jewish holidays. The Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah is a very similar holiday compared to our new year. HaShem was the person who created this holiday. This holiday was started in Israel. Rosh Hashanah was started for a new beginning and new hope.

Special decorations they have are grapes, candles, juice or wine, seltzer, gefilite, fish, and horseradish. To set their tables they used exotic fruit for decoration in the center of the table. When the Jewish eat fish it is a symbol of fertility, fish is a main symbol that represents this holidays. A main food that they always have is honey and apple, and noodle krugal.

A very similar holiday compared to this is our New Year. It is similar because people are looking for a new start. Another way they are similar is because people have feasts and they celebrate the New Year. In both holidays they were started for the same reasons, for a new start.
