The Letter of Intention from Yad Vashem to the director of the Jasenovac Memorial Area
Jasenovac the Initiator of the European Memorial Areas Net
Jasenovac – The International School Yad Vashem in Jerusalem sent a Letter of Intention to the Jasenovac Memorial Area and proposed it to become the initiator for creating the net of authentic memorial areas of Europe for education about Holocaust.
Yad Vashem pointed out the importance of the Jasenovac Memorial Museum and its educational center for Holocaust and genocide rememberance as well as for education of future generations.
Natasa Jovicic, the director of the Jasenovac Memorial Area, said that the letter from Yad Vashem was one of the most important offers for cooperation and education about Holocaust on the European level.
«This cooperation will ensure the Jasenovac Memorial Area become the center in the field of its concerns, that is the presentations and education not only about Holocaust and genocide but also against any forms of totalitarism», said Natasa Jovicic.
The opening of the reconstructed Jasenovac Memorial Area, its Memorial Museum and Educational Center is expected in March 2006. Yad Vashem informed the Croatian Prime Minister and the Minister of Science, Education and Sports.
The first meeting of the representatives of the Jasenovac Memorial Area and Yad Vashem will be held in Jasenovac and Zagreb in Januray 2006, on the 27th of January, the International Holocaust Rememberance Day and the anniversary of Auschwitz liberation.
